Tractor-trailer hits building in Brecknock Township

A tractor-trailer struck a building Wednesday after failing to navigate a turn in Brecknock Township.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of routes 625 and 568, also known as New Holland and Alleghenyville roads, at about 6:10 p.m. for a report of a tractor-trailer that crashed into a building that is home to businesses on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.

Brecknock Township Fire Company Chief Joel Lutz said the driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to turn onto Alleghenyville Road when the trailer caught the corner of the building, causing structural damage to the roof of the porch. He said that the integrity of building was not threatened and that residents were allowed to remain there.

Lutz said no one was injured during the incident.

The road was closed for about an hour and a half while crews worked to clear the scene.

The incident was the second time this week that a tractor-trailer struck a building in Berks County.

On Monday night, a tractor-trailer crashed into a home along Kutztown Road/Route 222 in Maxatawny Township. The truck driver and one of the home’s occupants suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital. The crash caused severe damage to the structure.
