Traffic shift planned on Route 422 as Stage 2 construction project begins in Lower Pottsgrove

LOWER POTTSGROVE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that a shift of eastbound Route 422 traffic on Thursday, Sept. 26, will mark the beginning of Stage 2 construction under an $83.6 million project to rebuild and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

• Sunday, Sept. 22, through Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a single-lane pattern will be in place on eastbound Route 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road for paving.

• Thursday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a single-lane pattern will be in place on eastbound Route 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road for a traffic shift.

• Monday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 27, from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m., intermittent single-lane closures will be in place on westbound Route 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard for roadway reconstruction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

When Stage 2 is completed in late 2025, eastbound Route 422 traffic will be shifted onto the rebuilt pavement, and westbound traffic will be shifted to the median for the start of westbound reconstruction under Stage 3.

Under this Section M1B project, Route 422 will be reconstructed on both existing and revised alignments to improve horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance to enhance travel and safety. A culvert at Sprogels Run, located just east of Porter Road, along with an existing single-span bridge carrying Route 422 over Porter Road, will be removed and replaced with a new two-span bridge. The bridge carrying Route 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will also be reconstructed and widened.
