Twin Valley defeats Lampeter-Strasburg in District 3 Class 5A softball quarterfinal

Twin Valley hit four home runs, including two by Liv Lichtner, to beat Lampeter-Strasburg 7-5 in a District 3 Class 5A softball quarterfinal Thursday at Lampeter.

The 11th-seeded Raiders (16-7), who clinched a berth in the PIAA Tournament, will travel to second-seeded Shippensburg for a semifinal game Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The Greyhounds (19-3) beat Northeastern 1-0 in eight innings Thursday.

Keiva Middleton hit a two-run home run in the first to give the third-seeded Pioneers (15-5) a 2-0 lead.

Twin Valley tied with two runs in the third on Megan Burnett’s two-run double, then took the lead with two runs in the third on solo homers by Lichtner and Madison Garber.

After Lampeter cut it to 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the inning, the Raiders scored three in the fourth to go up 7-3 as Lichtner and Natali Foster hit home runs.

The Pioneers scored a run in the fourth and another in the seventh.

Pitcher Delaney Simerly earned the win for Twin Valley. She allowed one run on six hits in 3.2 innings of relief. She struck out one.

Garber went 3-for-4 for the Raiders, who will be making their fourth straight trip to the semifinals. Mia Ahornian, Lichtner, Burnett and Foster each had two hits.
