Twin Valley loses to Spring Grove in District 3 Class 5A first-round football game

Zyree Brooks ran for 288 yards and four touchdowns to lead Spring Grove to a 33-6 win over visiting Twin Valley in a District 3 Class 5A first-round game Friday.

The 13th-seeded Raiders (6-5) were playing the first district playoff game in school history.

Andrew Osmun gave the fourth-seeded Rockets (9-1) the lead on a 20-yard run with 6:39 left in the first quarter before Brooks took over.

He scored on a 96-yard run to give Spring Grove a 12-0 lead with 1:10 left in the first quarter. Then, after the Rockets stopped Twin Valley and took over with just 56.7 seconds left in the first half, he capped a drive with a 1-yard run to make it 19-0 at the half.

The Raiders opened the second half with a successful onside kick and turned it into their only score. Dominic Caruso scored on a 1-yard run with 7:43 left in the third to cut it to 19-7.

Brooks then scored on runs of 3 yards and 24 yards to help the Rockets put it away.

Spring Grove will host fifth-seeded Waynesboro, a 42-20 winner over Daniel Boone, next week in the quarterfinals.
