Twin Valley got off to a slow start but made corrections and ran away with a 40-10 victory against Selinsgrove Friday night at Twin Valley in high school football.
The Raiders gave up a field goal to the Seals on the opening drive and picked up just one first down in the opening quarter. Selinsgrove’s opening possession started at their own 16 and the Seals picked up three first downs before Noah Walter successfully made a 30-yard field goal.
Selinsgrove went for a fake punt on fourth and long on the final play of the first quarter, and the run was stopped several yards short by Lucas Myers.
From there, Twin Valley took over at their own 46 and never looked back.
Senior quarterback Evan Myers dominated the game on the offensive end, picking up 94 yards on the ground and 160 through the air, as well as four rushing touchdowns. He was 12-for-15 passing.
Early in the second quarter, Evan Johnson capped off a 5-play, 44-yard drive with a 30-yard touchdown run on second down and seven. Johnson started up the middle, found a hole on the inside and found a clear sprint to the end zone, making it 7-3 in favor of the Raiders with 9:18 to go in the first half.
On the Seals’ next possession, Carter Fauble came up with a momentum-shifting sack on third down to give the ball back to the Raiders.
With 5:25 left in the first half, a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Lucas Myers on fourth and goal added to Twin Valley’s lead. The play capped off a 12-play, 48-yard drive and a missed extra point by the Raiders kept it a 10-point game.
Selinsgrove showed signs of resilience and found a spark moments later, however, as Brett Rice returned the ensuing kickoff 85-yards for a touchdown.
Twin Valley would not be deterred and the Raiders’ dynamic offense continued to control the tempo. Twin Valley took close to three minutes off the clock and finished a 58-yard drive with a 6-yard option keeper by quarterback Evan Myers.
The Raiders led 20-10 at the half. Also at halftime, Johnson led all rushers at the half with 56 rushing yards, Lucas Myers had 32 rushing yards and Evan Myers had 28. Twin Valley had 181 yards of total offense in the first half compared to the Seals’ 116 (103 passing).
Myers led the onslaught in the second half. He had touchdown scores of 45 and two rushing yards in the third quarter, as well as a six yard rush for a score early in the fourth quarter.
Selinsgrove picked up just one first down in the third quarter and got in the red zone just once in the fourth but could not score.
