Twin Valley’s Dylan Bonds advanced to the Class 2A singles semifinals of the District 3 boys tennis championships with a pair of wins Friday at Hershey Racquet Club.
Bonds, the second seed, was the only one of the seven Berks qualifiers to reach the semifinals.
He defeated Greenwood’s Drew Bratton 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and Lancaster Country Day’s Carson Weigel 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Bonds, a sophomore and the BCIAA Flight 1 runner-up, will face third-seeded Stefo Billis of Lancaster Catholic in Saturday’s semifinals, which will be at 1 p.m. at Hershey Racquet Club. The final will follow.
The top three will qualify for the PIAA championships.
In other Class 2A matches, Conrad Weiser’s Armaan Malik defeated Bermudian Springs’ Parker Sanders 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before losing to fourth-seeded Guillaume Schmitz of Biglerville 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
In first-round matches, Brandywine Heights’ Nate Berger fell to top-seeded Nile Abadir of Lancaster Country Day 6-1, 6-1, and Weiser’s Jio Garcia lost to Schmitz 6-2, 6-1.
In Class 3A, all three Berks entries were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Exeter’s Teddy Snyder, the BCIAA Flight 1 champ and the fourth seed, beat Manheim Township’s Kurt Chiong 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round before losing to Red Lion’s Cooper Wheeler 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
Reading High’s Zach Schrader beat Central Dauphin’s Michael Chotiner 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round, then lost to second-seeded Hayden Koons of Dallastown 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Daniel Boone’s Sam Shank beat Carlisle’s Arthur Deyoung 6-3, 6-4 in the first round, then lost to top-seeded Cooper Lehman of Hempfield 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.
