Upgrades in works for Blue Mountain school sound system

Ongoing problems with the sound system at Blue Mountain Elementary East have prompted the district to look into upgrading the system. The issue was discussed at the Blue Mountain School Board’s March 14 Committee of the Whole meeting. Quotes from three companies were acquired.

At the March 21 board meeting, school directors authorized the district administration to contract with Moyer’s Electronic Supply Company, Inc. to install a stage sound system at a cost not to exceed $14,092.

In other business, several policy and legislative updates and/or reviews were approved for first readings including one that deals with enabling students to report dating violence. Another deals with bullying and cyberbullying, something that needs to be reviewed every three years. Others involve minor changes to the policies dealing with school bus drivers and school commercial motor vehicle drivers, and a second reading on policies dealing with public comment at school board meetings.

Every five years, the district needs to place the food services management agreement up to bid. A request for proposals is being created. The goal is to award a bid in May.

The board approved a change order to the long jump boards for the triple and long jump runway at a cost not to exceed $6,200.

Elementary West Principal Kristin Frederick was congratulated on being promoted to district assistant superintendent.

The board approved annual fire alarm inspections and testing proposals from Berkshire Systems Group, Inc. for the next school year in the amount of $11,585.

The following were approved as high school assistant football coaches: John Toomey, $3,200; Thomas McGoey, $5,000; Aaron Bensinger, $3,400.

The next district committee of the whole meeting will be held April 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the  district office followed by the regular school directors’ meeting April 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school.
