The Reading-Muhlenberg Career & Technology Center SkillsUSA group prepared breakfast Saturday at the Paul R. Gordon Veteran Social Center in Reading
Veterans were served plain and chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, toast, fruit salad, coffee, juices and baked goods such as brownies and chocolate chip cookies.
SkillsUSA involves students, teachers, and industry representatives who work together to prepare students for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations.
Saturday was also the Veterans Making A Difference monthly Veteran Food Pantry. About 50 veterans in need received bags of food, including frozen meals, lunch meat, cheese, bread, eggs, canned soup, fresh oranges, bananas and blueberries.
Penske Veteran BRG provided three veteran volunteers who put the food in the bags. Veterans had the opportunity to eat until satisfied and enjoy fellowship with other veterans at breakfast, then veteran volunteers handed the bags to the veterans as they were leaving.
The veterans expressed appreciation to Veterans Making a Difference and the volunteers for the meal and the food they took home.
Veterans Making A Difference is looking for groups, churches or families to come in and serve a meal to veterans. The organization also needs groups to serve as monthly Food Pantry sponsors. Sponsors either buy the food to be given out or donate money or gift cards that can be used to purchase it. Any help to give veterans quality food is greatly appreciated.
