Humane Pennsylvania hosts the 48th Annual Walk for the Animals on Saturday, May 3.
“Last year’s Star Wars Day celebration was a huge hit, so this year, the saga continues with a brand-new theme: The Empire Bites Back! Get ready to break out your Han Solo costume, twist up those Princess Leia buns, dress your dog as Chewbacca, and come to the bark side for another epic, tail-wagging adventure!” organizers said in the release.
The Walk for the Animals will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Berks County Fairgrounds, 1216 Hilltop Road, Leesport. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the walk starts at 11 a.m.
“Take a leisurely one-mile stroll with your pup, family, and friends — all at your own pace — while supporting our mission and the animals who rely on us. Then stick around for the fun!”

Enjoy live music from Perfect Strangers, local vendors, games, tail-wagging dog contests presented by WEEU, and food from local food trucks including Smokehouse BBQ, Firehouse Coffee, Fresh Frenchy’s, and Viking Lodge 735 Potato Spuds.
Admission for the Walk is free, but registration helps save the lives of thousands of animals in need.
Register online (adults $30 and children $20) to reserve a Star Wars Walk for the Animals T-shirt featuring new artwork of HPA’s mascots dressed as favorite classic characters. Note that registrations received after April 18 are not guaranteed an event t-shirt.
Upgrade to a VIP Walker for $75, and receive a dog bandana, free all-you-can-eat buffet, beer and wine garden.
Walkers who pledge to raise more than $250 to save lives will receive their own Walk sweatshirt and Humane PA swag.
“Together, we can give animals safe shelter and lifesaving medical care, unite loving families with pets in need, and make a lasting difference in countless lives.”
