The Walk In Art Center’s photographers have joined to form the Schuylkill Shutter Society.
Photographers 16 and older are invited to join the society and participate in monthly discussions, learning opportunities and field trips to photogenic locales. The first meeting will be Monday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. in the Walk In Art Center gallery classroom, 220 Parkway in Schuylkill Haven.
“The Walk In Art Center has a vibrant Fiber Arts Guild, and our Clay Haven pottery group is growing exponentially,” said Jacquie Engel, Walk In Art Center executive director, in a press release. “It’s time we reinvigorated our camera club. We plan to make the Schuylkill Shutter Society into a fun and informative way for budding and experienced photogs to develop their skills, collaborate with like-minded artists, and grow their love of photography.”
The Schuylkill Shutter Society will meet on the first Monday of each month and take a field trip each season to a location offering great subjects or themes. Meetings will have a guided discussion on a photographic technique, style or the work of a well-known artist, followed by sharing of work and social time. A focus or prompt will be given to members at the meeting which will then be shared at the next meeting.
There is a $30 yearly membership fee to be part of the society. Field trips, such as one to Longwood Gardens in January, are optional and will include an additional fee.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Schuylkill Shutter Society should attend the first meeting on Oct. 4.
