Western PA man attacked and killed by bull on his farm

A Jackson Center man was killed in his pasture by a bull.

Mercer County Coroner John Libonati said Richard “Rick” Joy, 51, died of injuries from the bull attack on his farm April 23.

“He would have been working on his farm just like any other day when somehow the bull got angry and attacked him. It really is just a tragic incident,” Libonati said.

The Pine Township Engine Company was the first responder on the scene followed by state police from the Mercer barracks. Joy succumbed to his injuries shortly after help arrived.

Joy served in the Army during the Gulf War and worked as a forklift operator at Montgomery Truss and Panel.
