What to know about the boys basketball teams in Division IV of the Berks Conference for 2023-24

Oley Valley

Coach: Chad Walters, first season. (Went 38-70 in six seasons at Twin Valley).

Last season: 11-1 Berks IV, 19-7; District 3 Class 3A semifinalist.

PIAA classification: 3A.

Top players: 6-4 F David Turchi, 5-9 G Ben Debalko, 5-8 G Johnny Turchi, 6-4 F/C Tristan McFarland, 5-8 G Sean Hoffman.

Others to watch: 6-5 C Carter Smith, 6-1 F Spencer Haines, 5-8 G Nick Debalko, 5-8 G Luke Turchi, 5-8 F Gryiffin Cappellano.

Outlook: The Lynx have depth and several returners who will help lead a charge for a deep run in the county and District 3 playoffs.


Coach: Mike Green, 11th season, 141-118.

Last season: 5-7 Berks IV, 13-12; District 3 Class 2A runner-up, PIAA Class 2A qualifier.

PIAA classification: 2A.

Top players: 6-4 F Julious Williams, 5-10 G AJ Scheifley, 5-8 G Shawn Raffety.

Outlook: With a few returners looking to grow, the Mounts should contend at the county level and make a run at the district playoffs.


Coach: Eric Luckenbill, first season.

Last season: 3-9 Berks IV, 7-15.

PIAA classification: 3A.

Top players: 5-8 PG Phoenix Kellogg, 5-9 G EJ Miranda.

Others to watch: 6-5 F Colten Mathias, 6-0 Chase Franks, 6-3 Kole Schuler.

Outlook: The Cougars look to build a consistent program behind several athletic returners. With new coaches throughout, Kutztown should challenge for a district berth.

Brandywine Heights

Coach: Dave Moseley, third season, 17-27.

Last season: 5-7 Berks IV, 11-12. District 3 Class 3A quarterfinalist.

PIAA classification: 3A.

Top players: 5-11 G Nate Winkler , 5-11 G Tommy Clark, 6-0 F Scotty Ray.

Others to watch: 5-7 Brecken Hermany, 6-2 F Jackson Craft.

Outlook: With a very young team, the Bullets will look to learn and stay competitive within the division.


Coach: Nate Miller, second season, 5-17.

Last season: 0-12 Berks IV, 5-17.

PIAA classification: 3A.

Top players: None reported.

Outlook: A rebuilding year. Looking to learn and grow as a program.
