Wilson, Berks Catholic advance to BCIAA Team Wrestling Tournament final

Berks I champ Wilson and Berks II champ Berks Catholic advanced to the BCIAA Team Wrestling Tournament championship match with semifinal wins Friday at Wyomissing.

The final originally was scheduled to be held Friday following the semifinals, but was moved to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Wyomissing due to the threat of inclement weather.

The defending champion Bulldogs (12-3) defeated Berks I third-place Exeter 36-30 in the semis. The Saints (12-1), who won the team title at the BCIAA Team Tournament earlier this month, beat Berks I runner-up Gov. Mifflin 37-30 in the other semifinal.

In the quarterfinals Friday, Mifflin beat Berks II third-place Brandywine Heights 50-19 and Exeter beat Berks II runner-up Conrad Weiser 48-18.

Berks Catholic, in just its second season competing in the BCIAA, clinched its semifinal victory over Mifflin (8-6) with a pin by John Maurer over Andrew Huesgen in 2:38 at 145 pounds in the match’s final bout.

The Saints, who trailed 18-0 after the first four bouts, got pins from Brody Kline (215), Mason Iswalt (285) and Brayden Hartranft (113) on the way to going up 31-24.

The Mustangs got within 31-30 on Eathan Vogelin’s 51-second pin over Nathan Moschak at 138 before Maurer clinched it.

Mifflin also got a pin from Samuel Moyer (152).

Details of the other matches were not immediately available.
