Wilson’s run at a second straight District 3 Class 3A boys lacrosse title ended with a 9-8 loss to Hempfield in a quarterfinal game Thursday at Neffsville.
AJ McAlpine scored the winning goal for the fourth-seeded Black Knights (14-4) with 4:21 left.
For the fifth-seeded and Berks champion Bulldogs (17-5), Seamus Breslin had three goals, Gavin Lenart two goals and an assist, Matt Stitzel two goals, Dylan Garber three assists and Cohen Renninger one goal. Stitzel also won 17-of-20 faceoffs.
Brayden Skipper made 10 saves.
McAlpine finished with three goals and an assist, Max Grube had two goals and three assists and Carsten Rankin had two goals for Hempfield, which lost 12-9 to Wilson in last year’s district final.
Wilson was looking to advance to the semifinals for the sixth straight season. Still, the Bulldogs had a standout year, winning their 10th straight BCIAA title and extending their winning streak vs. league opponents to 129.
Susquehannock 17, Berks Catholic 8: At Glen Rock, the top-seeded Warriors (18-1) led 8-1 after a quarter on the way to the District 3 Class 2A quarterfinal win over the eighth-seeded Saints (11-9).
Hayden Nowotarski had two goals and two assists and Luke Hughes had two goals for Berks Catholic. Christian Cacchione had a one and an assist, and Gabe Iswalt, Andrew Junkiewicz and Grant Partsch each a goal for the Saints.
