Wilson won its 128th straight game against league opponents and will look to capture its 10th straight BCIAA boys lacrosse title after defeating Berks Catholic 18-3 in a semifinal Tuesday at West Lawn.
The top-seeded Bulldogs (15-4) will take on third-seeded Exeter, which defeated No. 2 Gov. Mifflin 16-11 in the other semifinal, in the final Thursday at 8 p.m. at Albright College. Wilson defeated the Eagles 4-3 in the regular season matchup.
The Bulldogs dominated possession early and jumped to an early 5-0 lead against fourth-seeded Berks Catholic before Christian Cacchione scored for the Saints (10-8) with 3:51 left in the first. Wilson answered as Matt Stitzel and Dylan Garber each scored in the final 30 seconds of the quarter to give Wilson a 7-1 lead.
“Well we just started fast,” Bulldogs head coach Ryan Schaeffer said. “That was one of the things that we’ve been talking about. I think we really controlled the game from the offensive end of the field in the first half; played really well in the first quarter and really just set the tempo for the game the rest of the way. So that was that was big; we needed that.”
Brady Rigdon and Gavin Lenart each scored two goals and Carter Brensinger also scored for Wilson in the first.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs continued to roll as they scored six goals to go into halftime with a 13-1 lead.
Wilson outscored Berks Catholic 5-2 in the second half. Luke Hughes scored a goal each in the third and fourth quarters for the Saints.
For the Bulldogs, Lenart finished with four goals and three assists, Garber had three goals and three assists, Rigdon had three goals and two assists, Brensinger had two goals and one assist, Seamus Breslin had two goals and three assists, Stitzel had two goals, Ben Rada had one goal, Jack Dendall had one goal and Jack Kersikoski had one assist.
Mason Iswalt had seven saves for Berks Catholic and Brayden Skipper had three saves for Wilson.
