Wilson, Gov. Mifflin advance to Berks Boys Volleyball League final

Wilson and Gov. Mifflin will meet for the Berks Boys Volleyball League title Saturday after each earned semifinal wins over division champions Thursday.

The Bulldogs defeated Berks I champ and defending champ Exeter 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24) at Reiffton.

The Mustangs beat Berks II champ Brandywine Heights 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-9) at Mertztown.

The final will be Saturday at Gov. Mifflin at 5 p.m.

Wilson lost to Exeter 3-0 twice during the regular season in finishing third in Berks I. The Bulldogs also lost to the Eagles in last year’s final, but were able to get a measure of revenge Thursday.

For Wilson (11-6), Jameson Black had 14 kills and three blocks, Aidan Hunter had eight kills and four blocks, Eric DelPizzo had 59 assists and two kills, and Luca Marchio had 23 digs.

For Exeter (13-2), Logan Reber had 41 assists, 17 digs and two kills, Gaige Gabriel had 17 kills, and seven digs, and Chase Nugent had 13 kills, three aces and nine digs.

Mifflin, the second-place team from Berks I, advanced to the final for the first time since 2018 with its victory over Brandywine.

For the Mustangs (13-4), Tyler Knoop had 13 kills, one block and two aces, Aidan Young had 12 kills, nine digs and three aces, and Josh Wert had nine kills, 13 digs and three aces.

No stats were reported for the Bullets (12-6).
