Wilson High School Interact Club Honored for Egg Hunt Offered to Special Needs Students in Berks

From Wilson School District

Wilson High School Interact Club was recently honored for their exemplary annual Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt offered to special needs students throughout Berks County between the ages of 4 and 21. In addition to the 5,000 plastic eggs filled with candy, the participants also received prizes and snacks.

The Wilson High School Interact Club Advisor, Chris Daubert, received a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania House of Representatives Citation, and the following Wilson Interact Club Officers received Certificates of Recognition: Lily Schneider (President), Briana Willwerth (Vice President), Katherine Gibbon (Secretary), and Emma Williams (Treasurer).

PA Representative Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz (129th District) presented these recognitions on Friday, May 9, to acknowledge the remarkable Easter Egg Hunt they conduct for individuals with unique support needs, enabling them to participate in this traditional activity and giving them a well-deserved sense of inclusion.

Interact Club President Lily Schneider said, “The Eggstravaganza is an incredible, inclusive, and uplifting event. Three years ago, Interact Club members noticed the lack of inclusivity in local egg hunts. Thus, the Eggstravaganza started as an Easter egg hunt specifically for children with special needs. This tradition has continued thanks to our sponsor mentor, the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club, the community, and especially our club advisor, Mr. Chris Daubert. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to provide and host this amazing event. Without the help of the other club members, Mr. Daubert, the Rotary Club, and the community, this would not be possible.”

“As Rotarians, it is rewarding to see the enthusiasm, energy, and creativity of the Interact Club. It is a pleasure to work with such service-oriented young adults. We look forward to a continued partnership with these talented, altruistic students. The future of Rotary, along with the local and international services it provides, will depend on individuals like these who are willing to put ‘Service Above Self,’” said Jill Meade, Director of Youth Programs for the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club.
