Wilson runs past York in District 3 Class 6A football opener

YORK — Wilson never did figure out a way to stop York running back Jaheim White Friday night.

But thanks to Brad Hoffman and Jadyn Jones, with a boost from Cam Jones, the visiting Bulldogs didn’t need to.

Hoffman ran for three touchdowns and the Jones brothers scored two each to lead fifth-seeded Wilson to a 50-32 win over fourth-seeded York in a District 3 Class 6A football quarterfinal.

White was every bit as good as advertised, running for 227 yards and three touchdowns and throwing for another.

But Wilson (8-3), led by Hoffman with 178 yards on 17 carries, amassed 356 yards on the ground to win its sixth straight and end the season for the Bearcats (7-3).

“At the end of the day they’re going to score, we’ve got to face adversity,” Hoffman said. “Our team does a good job at that.

“We really wanted this game. Everyone earlier counted us out and we got the job done.”

The victory sends Wilson, which started the season 2-3, to the semifinals to face top-seeded Central York, a 26-14 winner over Manheim Township.

Jadyn Jones rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns and Cam Jones scored on an 81-yard kickoff return and a 26-yard run. He also used a 71-yard kickoff return to set up another Wilson score.

White got York out to a 6-0 lead when he ran 11 yards for a touchdown midway through the first quarter. But the lead lasted only 12 seconds when Cam Jones raced 81 yards with the ensuing kickoff and an 8-6 Wilson lead.

White also had TD runs of 1 and 61 yards and threw a 78-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter to trim Wilson’s lead to 29-20 at halftime.

“He was everything we said he was,” Wilson coach Doug Dahms said about White. “We made enough plays on him when we had to, but he kept them in the game.”

The Wilson defense stopped York on all six of its fourth-down attempts to set up the offense.

Hoffman scored on runs of 20, 1 and 24 yards. Jaydn Jones scored on runs of 3 and 15 yards.
