Winter weather advisory latest word on snow, sleet and ice for Berks

The most recent and possibly last forecast includes a bit of snow, sleet and ice for Berks County on Thursday night followed by a change to rain.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J., lifted its winter storm watch for Berks County, and now the entire region is in a winter weather advisory.

The advisory runs from 7 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday for potential for ice accumulations of up to one-third of an inch.

The advisory reads, in part, “Local power outages and tree damage are possible due to the ice. Travel could become very difficult. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact the Friday morning commute.

“Slow down and use extra caution if traveling.”

AccuWeather’s forecast shifted away from accumulating snow even during the storm watch, and the forecast group remains confident that there will only be a minor ice accumulation overnight.

AccuWeather expects clearing skies Friday after morning rain with a high near 40 degrees. Saturday should be mostly sunny and a few degrees colder, then mostly sunny and a high in the mid-40s on Sunday.

The month is expected to end on a very cold note. The temperature might not get above freezing on Monday, according to AccuWeather.
