Woman announces candidacy for Schuylkill County commissioner

Mary Jo Moss of West Brunswick Township has announced her candidacy for Schuylkill County Commissioner. She is a Republican.

In her announcement, Moss said she is qualified, experienced, enthusiastic and positive and serves her community with great energy. She pledged to bring strong and fair leadership to the county.

As program director for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Moss recruited students in every local school district, the Schuylkill Technology Center, Scouts, 4-H and the Schuylkill County Fair to provide hands-on experience for starting a business. Moss says such training programs help build the workforce Schuylkill County needs for economic growth.

Born and raised in Wayne Township and Lake Wynonah, Moss earned a degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University and a fellowship in educational policy and leadership in Harrisburg. She worked at AT&T/Lucent as a senior product engineer and was a supervisor of manufacturing and testing operations.

She has served on boards including the STC, IU29 and the Blue Mountain School District along with Schuylkill Women in Crisis, PTO, the Walk In Art Center, Victims Witness Advisory Board, and was an advocate for agriculture, science, technology and math (AgSTEM) at Blue Mountain. Moss is a Hamburg EMS board members and chairwoman of the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board.

Moss said she has a consistent record of fighting for taxpayers and is especially concerned about senior citizens and veterans along with challenges the community faces with inflation, wages, blight and property reassessment. Moss is calling for improving the quality of life through economic development and by protecting land and natural resources.

“Schuylkill County is a hidden gem where family values and a strong work ethic have always been our strengths,” Moss said. “As Commissioner I will work hard to serve this great county so we can move forward together. I ask for your vote on May 16.”
