Wyomissing Borough Council voted unanimously to approve zoning amendments providing for towerless mobile communication equipment.
Township Solicitor Christopher Hartman said the changes would bring the borough into compliance with the Federal Communications Commission initiated Act 50 regulating 5G towers within borough rights-of-way.
Hartman said the equipment is typically installed on existing poles or buildings and would be part of mandatory guidelines designed to speed the process of reviews and fees for the facilities.
The moves have already been recommended by the borough and Berks County planning commissions.
In other business Tuesday, Police Chief John Phillips told the board that the force will take delivery of body cameras on Jan. 31.
Body cams are wearable audio, video or photographic recording systems used to record events in which law enforcement officers are involved.
