Wyomissing sophomore Amaya Stewart named Berks Girls Basketball League Player of the Year

Wyomissing sophomore Amaya Stewart was named the Berks Girls Basketball League Player of the Year and Wyomissing’s Aaron Anders was named the Coach of the Year, the BCIAA announced on Sunday.

Through the county playoffs, Stewart leads the Berks champion Spartans in scoring at 15.3 points per game. The forward ranks second in Berks with 382 points this season.

Led by Anders and Stewart, Wyomissing (23-2) won its first county title in program history on Friday with a 46-28 victory over Reading High. The Spartans also won Berks III with an 11-0 league record and earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming District 3 Class 4A playoffs.

Stewart is joined on the All-Berks girls basketball team by Berks Catholic senior guard Caraline Herb, Exeter junior guard Grace Reedy, Fleetwood senior guard Alexis Hess, Oley Valley junior guard Morgan Snyder, Reading High senior guard Ashanti Chapman and Wilson freshman guard Laila Jones.

Hess is a four-time all-county selection. Herb is a two-time pick; she also made it as a sophomore.

All selections were made by the league coaches.
