Wyomissing turns back challenge from Tulpehocken in BCIAA girls soccer playoffs

Hannah Hurleman assisted on two goals in the second half Saturday to help defending champion Wyomissing pull away from visiting Tulpehocken for a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals of the Berks Girls Soccer League playoffs.

The second-seeded Spartans (10-0) were locked in a scoreless battle with the seventh-seeded Trojans (12-5-2) through the first 40 minutes. Abby Becker, who finished with nine saves, and the Tulpehocken defense kept the high-powered Spartans offense off the scoreboard.

But Wyomissing broke through in the second half on a goal by Sophia Zeppos. Wyomissing, which averaged nearly five goals per game during the regular season, got an insurance goal from Izzy Marshall later in the second half.

In the semifinals Tuesday, Wyomissing will host sixth-seeded Fleetwood at 4 p.m.
