Wyomissing’s seniors gathered following their final game at the A-Field on Saturday, taking photos with teammates, family, and their fourth District 3 championship trophy in as many years.
The No. 1 seed Spartans completed the four-peat with a 63-7 win over third-seeded West Perry in the District 3 Class 3A title game.
“They’re winners,” Wyomissing coach Bob Wolfrum said about his 17 seniors. “It’s more than talent. Mentally, they’re willing to prepare. In the offseason, they’re willing to prepare physically. During the season, they’re willing to prepare mentally every week.”
The seniors led the way for the Spartans on Saturday, as Wyomissing ran for 623 yards and nine touchdowns on 41 carries. Its offensive line controlled the game at the line of scrimmage, opening up big holes for a plethora of running backs.
“It means so much,” senior guard J’ven Williams said about winning his fourth straight district title. “Coming off this field, it was super emotional.”
Senior running back Charles McIntyre led Wyomissing with 165 yards and two touchdowns on just five carries. McIntyre had touchdown runs of 63 and 73 yards.
“It’s huge,” McIntyre said about the district championship. “To win every year we’ve been here is great.”
Fellow senior Matthew Kramer was not far behind, as the fullback had 151 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries. Kramer’s longest touchdown came on a 63-yard run in the second quarter, which lifted the Spartans to a two-possession lead and swung the momentum fully in their favor.
“The lineman did such a phenomenal job today,” Kramer said. “They were opening things up.”
With the win, Wyomissing’s senior class finishes with a 26-0 record at the A-Field. They won three of their four district titles, as well as two state playoff games, on their home turf.
“Our young kids are being given a great example by our older kids,” Wolfrum said. “It’s good for the younger kids to see there’s all different kinds of leadership.”
The Spartans will continue their postseason away from home in the PIAA playoffs, beginning next Friday night at Danville, the District 4 champions.
While their time playing games at the A-Field has come to an end, the seniors’ appreciation for their home stadium will never fade.
“This place is just different,” Kramer said. “To be able to win every single game we’ve played at home is unreal. It’s such a great feeling.”
