Aug. 3

State officials caution those with student loans to be on the lookout for financial aid scams that could expose them to identity theft and financial loss.

Lawmakers are seeking to expand the path to the classroom and include noncitizens with education degrees the opportunity to pursue a career in teaching.

Aug. 10

North Division champion Pine Grove won the Schuylkill-Berks title at First energy Stadium in Reading, sweeping North Division champ Kutztown 3-2 and 6-1 in the best-of-three championship series.

Schuylkill Haven resident Ellen Smith spoke to council requesting support in bringing help to those in a suicide crisis. Schuylkill haven will soon have resources hung around town.

A Scranton man is accused of intentionally hitting a Schuylkill County business owner with a tri-axle truck, killing him after a payment dispute.

Aug. 17

A new e-sports clubs coming to Schuylkill haven Area High School. The club will offer students the chance to engage in e-sports, with like-minded peers.

Orwigsburg officials continue to discuss draft agreements for a proposed cross-connection with nearby Schuylkill haven’s water system.

Schuylkill United Way received 2,200 backpacks filled with school supplies in this year’s 22nd annual Stuff the Bus school supply campaign.

Aug. 24

Pennsylvania greatly expands education spending and southern Schuylkill County schools see influx of state support.

At the Schuylkill Haven borough council meeting, administrator Jessica Seiders said the new bridge is close to completion and the finishing touches are being done on the Route 443 span.

Wayne Township Community Day will celebrate the new park, Lions Pavilion, a paved walking trail with a bridge over the stream, a second athletic field with parking, fishing ponds and picnic area.

Aug. 30

Hundreds of firefighters from across the region gathered for the 69th annual Schuylkill County Volunteer Firefighters Convention Parade in Schuylkill Haven and Cressona on Aug. 26.

The Blue Mountain Eagle Foundation presented its 24th annual Awards and Recognition Banquet at the Schuylkill Country Club.

Janice Dietz of the Tri-Valley Lions Club was presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship by District Governor Matthew Uroskie and Immediate Past District Governor Lisa Léon in August.
