3 more COVID deaths reported in Berks

Berks County has added three new confirmed COVID deaths to its pandemic total.

The deaths were in the weekly report released Monday by coroner’s office. It was the third week in a row that three COVID deaths were reported in the county.

According to the report, they were of:

• A 103-year-old man in his home on Sept. 18.

• A 74-year-old man in Reading Hospital on Sept. 21.

• A 71-year-old woman in Penn State Health St. Joseph hospital on Sept. 23.

The deaths bring the confirmed total number of people to die of COVID in the county during the pandemic to 1,507. Another 27 deaths have been ruled as probable COVID deaths but have not been confirmed through testing.

Monday’s report from the coroner’s office also included three deaths that are suspected to be due to COVID but are awaiting the results of testing. Those deaths are not included in county totals.

According to the state Department of Health, which reports the number of Berks residents to die of COVID regardless of where the deaths took place, a total of 1,662 county residents have died of COVID.

Pennsylvania has a total of 47,098 COVID deaths during the pandemic, according to the Department of Health.
