Albright Psychology Chapter Recognized for Excellence

by Albright College

The Albright College chapter of Psi Chi has been designated as a 2023-24 Psi Chi Model Chapter — an honor bestowed on less than 4% of the international psychology organization’s 1,150 chapters.

The honor is in recognition of excellent chapter teamwork and activity over the last year. Albright’s 2023-24 Psi Chi chapter leaders included President Alyssa Zerbe ’24, Vice President Taisha Charles ’24, Secretary Siani Justice-Smith ’24, Treasurer Laura Poynter ’24, Social Media Chair Kelsey Wyatt ’25, and Advertising Chair Samantha Raby ’25 — who will serve as Psi Chi chapter president in 2024-25.

One notable feat of teamwork included a Pie for Purpose fundraiser, supporting the Christian Ladd Hall Scholarship for Mental Health Advocacy.

“The event not only fostered a sense of community and collaboration but also successfully raised funds for mental health advocacy,” said faculty advisor Keith Feigenson, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology. “The e-board meticulously planned the event, delegated tasks, and ensured smooth execution by organizing logistics and advertising — highlighting the chapter’s ability to work together effectively, combining creativity, organization, and community involvement to achieve a shared goal.”

As with the fundraiser, chapter leadership also worked with faculty to organize an alumni panel event for Albright students, featuring five of the college’s psychology graduates from the last decade. Alumni panelists included human resource leadership, graduates working in the nursing field, private practice, and with incarcerated individuals, and one member pursuing a clinical Ph.D. The engaging discussion exceeded the planned 1.5 hours, providing students with invaluable insights and networking opportunities.

Founded in 1929, Psi Chi is the international honor society in psychology, with a mission to encourage excellence in scholarship and advance the science of psychology. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS).
