Alvernia men defeat Wilkes in college basketball

Alvernia retook control with a big second-half run to defeat Wilkes 67-51 Saturday in a non-conference men’s basketball game at Jack McCloskey Court.

After leading by as many as 10, the Golden Wolves (3-1) fell behind 44-41 with 12:41 left. Jalil Schenck hit a 3-pointer to tie it and start a 26-7 run that put Alvernia up 67-51 with 55 seconds left.

Nigel Cooke led Alvernia with 13 points. Malik Green had 11 and Jakob Stoudt 10 points and eight rebounds.

Jack Argento led the Colonels (2-3) with 16 points.

Georgian Court 76, Kutztown 70: Saturday at Keystone Arena, the Golden Bears (0-3) fell behind for good at 9-8 just 2:24 into the game in a non-conference loss to the Lions (2-2).

Reading High grad Wesley Butler led Kutztown with 19 points. Robert Tucker had 18 points and 16 rebounds and Jalen Bryant scored 15 points.

Clint Wright Jr. led Georgian Court with 19 points.

Women

Jefferson 70, Kutztown 53: Saturday at Philadelphia, the Golden Bears (1-3) fell behind by 10 after a quarter in losing to the Rams (4-0) in a non-conference game.

Kutztown only got as close as six in the second quarter and nine in the second half.

Annie Whalen led the Golden Bears with 16 points. Naia Pulliam had 11.

Sam Yencha led Jefferson with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Eastern Connecticut State 60, Albright 49: Sunday at Williamstown, Mass., the Lions (2-3) turned it over 11 times in the first half and 19 times overall in falling to the Warriors (2-2) at the Williams College Classic.

Albright trailed 20-10 after one quarter and was only able to get as close as six in the third quarter.

Gabby Boggs had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Mackenzie Dover had 11 points for the Lions.

Julie Keckler and Anna Barry each scored 16 to lead Eastern Connecticut.

Williams 76, Albright 69: Saturday at Williamstown, Mass., the Lions (2-2) trailed 44-35 at the half and could only get as close as four late in the fourth quarter in the loss to the Ephs (2-0) at the Williams College Classic.

Gabby Boggs had 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead Albright. Mackenzie Dover had 17 points and nine rebounds and Orianna Edmond had 14 points for the Lions.

Maddy Mandyck and Arianna Gerig each scored 16 points to Williams.

Alvernia 49, Immaculata 48: Saturday at Immaculata, Jordan Karmonick made two free throws with one second left to lift the Golden Wolves (2-3) over the Mighty Macs (3-2) in a non-conference game.

Alvernia trailed by 10 at 43-33 with 6:20 left.

Cathryn Kramer made a free throw to cut the Golden Wolves’ deficit to 48-47 with three seconds left. She missed the second free throw, but Karmonick was fouled after grabbing the offensive rebound.

Kayla Williams led Alvernia with 10 points. Karmonick had nine points and seven rebounds.

Reese Mullins led Immaculata with 17 points.
