Alvernia’s Malik Green scores 42 in men’s basketball loss to Hood

Malik Green scored 42 points, but Alvernia couldn’t come all the way back from a 19-point deficit in falling to Hood 87-86 in a MAC Commonwealth game Saturday at Jack McCloskey Court.

The Blazers (3-4, 9-7) opened the second half with a 16-2 run to expand a 44-39 halftime lead to 60-41 with 15:13 left.

The Golden Wolves (6-2, 12-4) got within 87-84 on a 3-pointer by Green with 22 seconds left. After Hood’s Will Pataki missed the front end of a one-and-one with 11 seconds left, Alvernia had a chance to tie. Green missed a 3 with one second left before putting in a follow at the buzzer.

Green was 14-for-24 from the field, including 8-for-14 on 3-pointers, and was 6-for-6 from the line.

Jakob Kelly had 19 points and Robert Mullan 10 for the Golden Wolves.

Garrison Linton led Hood with 21 points.

Lock Haven 87, Kutztown 77: Saturday at Keystone Arena, the Golden Bears (5-4, 5-9) shot 33% from the field in the first half to trail by 13 and could never get any closer than five in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East loss to the Bald Eagles (7-2, 11-3).

Kutztown got within five three times in the final 1:33, but each time Lock Haven answered by going 2-for-2 from the line.

Kyree Generett had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Tucker 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Bears. Kameron Roberts had 14 points and Jalen Bryant 10 for KU.

James Price and Justice Shoats each scored 23 to lead Lock Haven.

Women

Kutztown 72, Lock Haven 65: Saturday at Keystone Arena, Naia Pulliam scored 16 points to lead five Golden Bears (6-3, 8-7) in double figures in the PSAC East win over the Bald Eagles (5-4, 7-7).

Casey Remolde scored 14 points, Zara Zerman and Abbey Hearn each 13, and Sydney Pierson 11 for Kutztown. Pierson also had 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.

Alana Robinson led Lock Haven with 22 points.

Alvernia 83, Hood 56: Saturday at Jack McCloskey Court, Jordan Karmonick had 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Golden Wolves (6-2, 10-6) to the MAC Commonwealth win over the Blazers (1-6, 4-11).

Kayla William had 17 points and Tamia Wessels 14 for Alvernia. Cathryn Kramer had 13 rebounds.

Tiffany Manning led Hood with 13 points.

Albright 75, King’s 50: Saturday at Wilkes-Barre, Amina Rauf scored 19 points, Orianna Edmond and Gabby Boggs each had 13 and Mackenzie Dover 12 as the Lions (10-6) earned the non-conference win over the Monarchs (3-13).

Edmond also had 10 rebounds.

Lauren Casey led King’s with 10 points.
