Berks County man has to be rescued from his pickup truck

A Boyertown man had to be rescued from his pickup truck Friday morning after the vehicle struck a tree in Oley Township, police said.

It took emergency crews about 30 minutes to remove Richard Himmelberger, 71, from his vehicle, Central Berks Police said.

Himmelberger was transported to the Reading Hospital with moderate injuries, police said. His condition was not available.

According to police:

Himmelberger was traveling on Hoch Road when he crested a hill in the 100 block, drifted into the opposing lane and struck a tree.

Himmelberger was pulling a camper with his truck.

The roadway was closed for about two hours as crews removed the truck and camper.
