Boyertown School District lifts mask requirement for school buses

Masks are no longer required on Boyertown School District buses.

The change was announced in a message posted to the district’s Facebook page Monday. The message said the shift in policy was effective immediately.

Masks were already optional inside Boyertown schools, a move that took effect Feb. 14.

Boyertown’s decision on masking on district transportation follows a recent shift in federal guidance.

The federal government had required students and drivers wear masks on school buses or other school transportation. However, on Friday the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its rules.

The CDC now says that it does not require wearing of masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs.

Masks are still required on other forms of public transportation.

Other local school districts, including Twin Valley and Antietam, have also dropped mask mandates on school buses following the change in CDC guidance.
