The Peppermint Stick, a beloved local candy store, is proud to announce its 10th annual Candy for Our Troops event, which will take place from Wednesday, May 21, through Sunday, May 25. This year, the initiative holds special significance as The Peppermint Stick honors three dedicated active military members from our very own community:
- Laura Adams, U.S. Navy Electrician’s Mate, 2024 Boyertown Area High School Graduate
- Corporal Gabriel Gilbert, U.S. Marine Corps, 2021 Boyertown Area High School Graduate
- Sergeant Anthony Romano, U.S. Marine Corps, 2020 Roman Catholic High School Graduate
Continuing its tradition of giving back during the Memorial Day weekend, The Peppermint Stick will send these brave individuals candy-filled care packages as a small token of appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
“For the past decade, our ‘Candy for Our Troops’ event has been a meaningful way for our community to show its gratitude to the brave men and women who serve our country,” said Rachael Kehler, the owner of The Peppermint Stick. “This year’s ‘Candy for Our Troops’ event holds an extra special place in my heart. Laura Adams, who once worked right here at the store during her high school years, is now serving our country in the U.S. Navy. I couldn’t be prouder of all she has accomplished. It’s truly an honor to support her and all our local heroes.”
The Peppermint Stick is providing the sweet treats for these care packages, but they are inviting the community to add an even more personal touch: heartfelt, handwritten cards. When customers stop by The Peppermint Stick, located at 26 E. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown, between Wednesday, May 21, and Sunday, May 25, they can enjoy their favorite candies and take a moment to fill out a provided card with their messages of thanks and support for Laura, Gabriel, and Anthony.
“While we can provide the candy, the true care comes from the personal messages from our community,” added Jodie Moyer, an employee at The Peppermint Stick. “These cards let our local heroes know that their sacrifices are seen, appreciated, and never forgotten.”
The community is encouraged to visit The Peppermint Stick during the event dates to participate in this special initiative and help send a sweet reminder of home to these deserving service members during the Memorial Day weekend.
