Celebrate Black History Month 2025 at Kutztown University

From Kutztown University of Pennsylvania

February is Black History Month. Established in 1976, Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history, science, mathematics, literature, art, music, and culture. Kutztown University celebrates the month with events for the entire community.

The Multicultural Center (MCC) aims to celebrate and honor cultures and communities year-round. Get involved by contacting multicultural@kutztown.edu.

The Rohrbach Library has made numerous resources available digitally for Black History Month. DEI LibGuide, located at library.kutztown.edu/dei, lists resources the library has on topics of diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion. It also hosts a blog for Black History Month, a resource guide for veterans, and a hip-hop guide.

Ujima Conference: Feb. 18-20

The Ujima Conference is an annual celebration of African and Black heritage during the month of February. Over the span of three days, students, staff, and other members of the Golden Bear community come together to create programming and events that celebrate the richness of the African diaspora.

The theme “Confidence in Color” inspires students to embrace their ancestry and feel empowered in the face of adversity. Our cultures are diverse, not monolithic, so it also encourages students to break the mold and be themselves.

This year’s keynote speaker is Shanita Hubbard, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, 218 MSU. Hubbard is an acclaimed writer, sociology professor, and Soros Fellow.

Complete schedule and RSVP information can be found on the conference website. Events include an art gallery, a luncheon for veterans, and an awards dinner, along with student engagement with performances and professional development.
