Chicago Bears release 2023 schedule: Week 1 and Week 18 against the Green Bay Packers — plus 4 prime-time games

The Chicago Bears will open and close their 2023 regular season against the Green Bay Packers, the team announced Thursday night as part of their full schedule release.

The first Bears-Packers game after the Aaron Rodgers era will be in the season opener Sept. 10 at Soldier Field. Fans are expected to get their first good look at the Packers under new quarterback Jordan Love. The teams are scheduled to meet again in Week 18 at Lambeau Field.

The Bears won only three games last season, but the NFL still scheduled them to play four games in prime time in 2023, highlighted by a “Thursday Night Football” matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Nov. 9 at Soldier Field.

The game is notable because it is expected to feature Bears quarterback Justin Fields against new Panthers quarterback Bryce Young. The Bears traded the No. 1 draft pick to the Panthers this offseason so that the Panthers could draft Young. The Bears received Panthers wide receiver DJ Moore as a part of the trade.

The Bears also are scheduled to play the Washington Commanders on “Thursday Night Football” on Oct. 5 at FedEx Field. That game is a rematch of an unfortunate Thursday night game in October, which the Commanders won 12-7. The Bears and offensive coordinator Luke Getsy tweaked their offense after that performance to help Fields become more productive.

The second of the Bears-Minnesota Vikings matchups will also be in prime time, a Nov. 27 “Monday Night Football” game in Minneapolis. The Bears play host to the Vikings in Week 6 on Oct. 15.

The last prime-time game is in Week 8 — a Sunday night matchup at the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 29. That’s one of a few games on the Bears road schedule against intriguing teams in fun destinations.

Other trips of interest include the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 on Sept. 24 at Arrowhead Stadium and the New Orleans Saints in Week 9 on Nov. 5 at the Caesars Superdome.

The Bears have two home preseason games this year, against the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills. The second preseason game will be at the Indianapolis Colts.

NFL team social media crews typically put a lot of work into their schedule announcements for the league’s big rollout. The Bears did a play on the TV show “The Bear,” which is about a Chicago Italian beef restaurant.

WWE star Seth Rollins, Bears almuni Charles “Peanut” Tillman and Anthony “Spice” Adams and several current players, including Justin Fields, Darnell Mooney, Khalil Herbert and Tremaine Edmunds, star in the video.
