College corner: Daniel Boone grad Hannah Cassner gets NCAA provisional qualifying mark

Hannah Cassner, a freshman at Shippensburg University from Daniel Boone, won the javelin last weekend at the Millersville Metrics with a throw of 142-9, which is an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.

Cassner ranks fourth on Shippensburg’s all-time list in the women’s javelin.

As a senior at Daniel Boone in 2021, Cassner won the District 3 Class AAA javelin with a throw of 130-5 and then placed fourth in the state meet with a throw of 131-4.

Red Raider sprinter Aliyah Serrano, a junior from Conrad Weiser, ran a leg on Shippensburg’s winning 4 x 100 relay team (47.19) at the Colonial Relays at William and Mary last weekend. Serrano also competed in the 100 (12.29) and 200 (25.55).

In the high jump at the Colonial Relays, Norah Vallon, a junior from Wilson, tied for 7th, clearing 5-3.

Millersville track and field

Seya Trujillo, a Boyertown graduate, finished second in the discus with a throw of 135-5 at the Shippensburg Midweek Invite on Wednesday. She was also second in the hammer throw at 163-9 and ninth in the shot put at 36-1¼.

On the track, Conrad Weiser graduate Katelyn Murphy finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.97. The time betters her PSAC mark and is the eighth-best time in program history.

In the 800-meter run, Morgan Janiuk, a Boyertown grad, finished third with a time of 2:22.86 and former Emma Elwell, also a Boyertown graduate, grabbed fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.96.

The Marauders have two meets remaining before the PSAC Outdoor Championships, with their next one scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Baltimore, Md. at the Hopkins Loyola Invitational.

Kutztown University softball

Haley Gravish, a junior pitcher from Hamburg, has started 19 games for the Golden Bears and made five other appearances. She has an ERA of 2.96 and has allowed 51 earned runs in 120.1 innings. She has 69 strikeouts.

Teammate Morgan Herb, a freshman pitcher from Exeter, has appeared in one game, giving up two hits and striking out three batters in 1.2 innings of work.

Kutztown University baseball

Dalton Furst, a freshman outfielder from Kutztown High, has played in 10 games for the Golden Bears, starting three of them. He’s hitting .167 with two hits, one a home run and the other a double.

Ryan Maloney, a sophomore catcher from Boyertown, has played in three games, with just three at-bats and no hits.

Trevor Leverington, a graduate student from Kutztown High, has made 9 pitching appearances, 8 of them starts. He has a 2-5 record with a 9.80 ERA.

Teammate AJ. Torres, a senior from Fleetwood, has made 5 appearances with a 9.0 ERA and freshman Kannon Zdimal from Twin Valley has pitched in 9 games in relief with an ERA of 9.53.
