Former Wyomissing standout Max Hurleman is now at Notre Dame after four seasons of playing football at Colgate.
Hurleman, listed as a graduate student/senior on the roster, is playing cornerback for the Fighting Irish after playing running back, wide receiver and kick returner at Colgate.
Hurleman was switched to wide receiver from running back after his junior season in which he started 11 games and rushed for 397 yards on 83 attempts. He also caught 20 passes that season for 239 yards. He returned 11 kickoffs his junior year for 211 total yards and 14 punts for 138 total yards.
As a senior last year, he had 28 receptions for 273 yards with a pair of touchdowns and seven carries totaling 25 yards, and 82 yards on five kickoff returns. He also returned 12 punts for 77 yards and earned All-Patriot League First Team honors on special teams.
As a senior at Wyomissing, Hurleman was the 2019 Berks Player of the Year, gaining 1,238 yards on 134 carries and scoring 15 touchdowns. He also caught 15 passes for 215 yards. On defense that fall, he made 70 tackles, and had two interceptions, two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Hurleman started four years on defense at Wyomissing and three years on offense, helping the Spartans go 12-1 his senior year and win the District 3 Class 3A championship.
Brandon George, Berks Catholic, Pittsburgh
Brandon George returns for a sixth year at Pitt as a linebacker.
The 6-3, 240-pounder played in all 12 games last season for the Panthers as the primary reserve at middle linebacker and also contributed on special teams.
He made 49 tackles, with 4.5 tackles for loss. He also had a sack and an interception. He had career highs of 10 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss against Florida State.
At Berks Catholic, George was a four-year standout on both sides of the ball, compiling 347 career tackles at linebacker, while rushing for 2,753 yards and 41 touchdowns at fullback. As a senior middle linebacker, he made 108 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and an interception. He also rush for 959 yards and 13 touchdowns on 123 carries (7.8 avg.).
He was the state runner-up in the discus and third in the shot put. He was also a starter on the basketball team and was named the Reading Eagle Athlete of the Year.
George earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and is now enrolled in Pitt’s Katz Graduate School of Business.
Cam’Ron Stewart, Gov. Mifflin, Temple
Cam’Ron Stewart is now at Temple after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Rutgers.
Stewart, a 6-5, 250-pound defensive end, played in just one game last year for the Scarlet Knights, after playing in nine games as a sophomore.
At Gov. Mifflin, Stewart played defensive end and tight end.
He finished his senior season with 39 tackles, eight tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery. He also caught seven passes for 148 yards and four touchdowns.
Stewart was a two-time All-Berks Defensive Lineman of the Year for the Mustangs.
Tanner Maddocks, Fleetwood, Villanova
Tanner Maddocks, a 6-1, 210-pound redshirt sophomore, is projected to be the backup quarterback at Villanova this fall.
In five games last season, Maddocks completed 6 of 6 passes for 44 yards and ran the ball five times for 15 yards.
At Fleetwood, he threw for 2,150 yards and 21 touchdowns his senior season. He led Berks County with seven interceptions as a defensive back.
According to his Villanova biography, he was the first Division I football player to come out Fleetwood.
Anthony Cacesse, Exeter, Delaware
Anthony Cacesse, a 6-6, 300-pound sophomore, will be vying for playing time at right tackle and right guard for Delaware this fall.
Cacesse made his collegiate debut last year against Saint Francis and played in four games for the Blue Hens.
He was a three-year starter at Exeter, serving as a team captain as a senior.
On defense, he finished his career with with 79 tackles, 10.5 sacks and 35 tackles for loss.
He was a two-time All-Berks selection (2021 and 2022).
Alex Holbrook, Exeter, LSU
After not competing his freshman year at Pittsburgh, Alex Holbrook, the former standout distance runner at Exeter, transferred to Louisiana State University.
Last year as a sophomore, Holbrook competed in five cross country meets, recording his best finish of 12th at the LSU Invitational with a 6,000-meter personal-best time of 19:15.3.
At Exeter, Holbrook ran 4:18 for the 1600-meter run and 9:22 for the 3200.
He was a two-time first team All-Berks pick in cross country at Exeter.
Katie Dallas, Wilson, Penn State
Katie Dallas is entering her junior season on the Penn State cross country team.
She competed in five meets last year, finishing 88th in the Big Ten Championships, running 23:09.2 for 6,000 meters. Her best performance last season was running 21:44.3 at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University.
At Wilson, she was the Berks Country Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2021 after finishing eighth in the PIAA Class 3A state championships and second in the District 3 championships.
