Exeter grad Taylor Bertolet signed by L.A. Chargers to the practice squad

Exeter grad Taylor Bertolet is back with an NFL team.

The kicker was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers to their practice squad as insurance in case Dustin Hopkins is unable to play this week due to an injury suffered in Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans.

Hopkins has been listed as having a right quad injury.

The Chargers play at Cleveland this week.

Bertolet, who turns 30 later this month, was on the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad for four days last month.

Los Angeles is the latest stop on Bertolet’s football journey since his college career at Texas A&M, and he’s still looking to kick in a regular season NFL game for the first time.

Since signing with the L.A. Rams as an undrafted free agent in May 2016, Bertolet has been with the Broncos twice and the Jets twice in the offseason/preseason. He also had stints on the practice squad with the Panthers in 2020 and was on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad that same season.

In addition, he’s kicked in the Alliance of American Football, in the CFL and last spring with the New Orleans Breakers in the USFL.
