‘Fly, Eagles, Fly’ gets a new treatment by Kane Kalas, Harry’s son [Video]

The Eagles have high hopes of beating the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in Super Bowl LVII and one fan has put his stamp on the weekend.

Kane Kalas — the son of the legendary Phillies announcer Harry Kalas, who was arguably the most famous singer of “High Hopes” — has put together an operatic/marching band version of the Eagles fight song, “Fly, Eagles, Fly.” It’s part of Kalas’ new album “High Hopes,” a tribute to his father, which will be released on April 6, fittingly the Phillies opening day.

“I’ve been working on the album for over two years,” said Kalas, who grew up in Delaware County and now lives in Puerto Rico. “The Eagles victory song is one of 18 songs on the album.”

“It opens with ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ Then a lot of the music on there is basically American standards. It’s stuff I grew up listening to my father singing or humming. He would go to a local piano bar and sing this sort of stuff. A lot of (Frank) Sinatra type of tunes.”

Besides the re-imagining of the Eagles song, Kalas has also taken songs like “You Make Me Feel so Young” and created new compositions.

Kalas used all local musicians to create the sound. The album is available for pre-order at www.KaneKalas.com.

“A lot of the songs are relevant to my father,” Kalas said. “ ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ is on there. That’s the song that was played at the Phillies memorial service. He always said when he reached his final resting place he wanted that song to be played.”

Kane Kalas, a one time television poker star, is now concentrating on his music and, of course, cheering for the Philly teams.

“It’s been an amazing year for Philly fans,” said Kalas. “Neither of the teams (the World Series Phillies or these Eagles) were expected to do much. It’s such a perfect time for sports in the area.”

He sang the “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Game 3 of the NLCS and sang “God Bless America” during the World Series.

Kalas will be back at Citizens Bank Park to sing the national anthem at the Phillies home opener April 6 when they play the Cincinnati Reds.
