Former Schuylkill Valley field hockey star Kelsi Lykens honored at West Chester

Former Schuylkill Valley High School standout field hockey player Kelsi Lykens was inducted into the West Chester University Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Lykens, who graduated from Schuylkill Valley in 2010, was a two-time All-American for the Rams, helping them win back-to-back NCAA Division II national titles in 2011-12.

Lykens is now the head field hockey coach at Lehigh University in Bethlehem.

At West Chester, Lykens was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference player of the year and the Division II Honda Award winner in field hockey in 2013.

She scored 33 goals and had 95 points in her 81 career games at West Chester, ranking seventh all-time in goals and sixth in points in the Division II era at the university.

Lykens was a two-time, first team All-PSAC selection.

The Mohrsville native earned a bachelor’s degree in professional studies with a minor in health and professional education in May 2014.

In her first year at the helm of Lehigh’s field hockey program this past fall, the Mountain Hawks finished 9-8 overall and 2-4 in Patriot League play.

Before taking over as head coach at Lehigh, Lykens spent six seasons at the University of New Haven building that program from the ground up from 2017 to 2022. New Haven won a combined 19 games over her last two seasons and reached the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament on each occasion. Lykens won the NFHCA President’s Award in 2012. She mentored 14 all-conference selections during her time at New Haven.

The Hall of Fame ceremony took place at The WCU Foundation on Carter Drive in West Chester.
