Graduating Reading Area Community College students get Boscov’s shopping spree

A group of Reading Area Community College students set to graduate next week are getting a jump-start on their careers after college.

Through the Career Ready event held Tuesday — a joint venture by RACC, Truist Bank and Boscov’s — 60 RACC students preparing to graduate May 6 got some tips on staying financially healthy and had a chance to pick out some professional attire.

Officials from Truist led a session on financial literacy, and the RACC director of career services assisted with job search preparation.

The students then got a chance to meet with buyers from Boscov’s who gave a presentation on color coordination, accessorizing and proper attire for interviews.

Following the sessions, each student was given a $250 Boscov’s gift card to use on a shopping spree to prepare for their new career.

“We’re delighted to partner with Reading Area Community College and help launch the careers of so many outstanding students,” Jim Boscov, Boscov’s CEO, said in an announcement. “We thank Truist for the investment they have made in the graduates and in our community. We are pleased and excited to help outfit these hard-working students as they enter the workforce.”

Tony DeMarco, RACC’s vice president of advancement and the executive director of the Foundation for RACC, said the event represents a powerful collaboration that will have a lasting impact on students.

“Our RACC graduates have the training to be successful in the workplace, and thanks to this event, they now have the professional attire to complement their skills along with the important understanding of budgeting their own finances,” he said.
