Here are a few places to celebrate Christmas near Oley

It makes sense that the Oley Valley would have special traditions to celebrate Christmas. With all of Oley Township on the National Register of Historic Places, Oley connects the old and the new.

Getting into the holiday spirit comes whether you are glimpsing the poinsettias at Glick’s or shopping unique items at Evelyn & Harriet’s Gifts, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Here are few places to celebrate a small town holiday in Oley:

Oley Fairgrounds

Held at the place that is the heart of so many community events, this event is free and much anticipated. It was canceled last year due to the pandemic. The Oley Fairgrounds, 26 Jefferson St., is the new home for Christmas In The Oley Valley Winter Wonderland. The Dec. 18 caroling event is a night for the community to come together as one. Organizers say on its Facebook page: “We join together in song and merriment, greet each other with kindness, acceptance and good will.”

Gathering begins at 6 p.m. with caroling at 7 p.m. For more details, call 610-781-4743.

Clay on Main

A Holiday Art Gallery is on view at Clay on Main, 313 Main St., in Oley until Dec. 22.

Friends of Clay on Main, including its co-op members, board members, volunteers and instructors, offer new and unique works of fine art and crafts during this holiday season.

Stop by during business hours to peruse beautiful handcrafted jewelry and other wearables along with paintings, pottery, sculpture, holiday ornaments and more. The works offered for purchase span all three gallery spaces.

Gallery hours are Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m., Fridays from 1 to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Walk-ins welcome, or call 610-987-1273 for an appointment. Private parties are available upon request; bring a few friends and make it a BYOB shopping party. Masks are required.

Evelyn & Harriet’s Gifts

Evelyn and Harriette’s Gifts was started in 2001 to be a furniture showroom for locally family made pieces. The store quickly took on its own character as items were added from local artisans, then from around the world. Since the furniture business retired, the shop came into its own reflecting the core belief that nice things do not have to be expensive.

All the gifts in the store come with stories. Located at 1232 Oysterdale Road near Oley Valley Feed, the shop’s holiday hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m.to 5 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 4 p.m. On Dec. 9 and 16 the shop is open until 7 p.m. For information call 610-987-6055 or email info@EvelynandHarriettesGifts.com.

Glick’s

The joys of Christmas are on full display at Glick’s Greenhouse for the annual Poinsettia Show, which continues Dec. 6 to 11 from 1 to 7 p.m.

The show started 44 years ago when Dave Glick (owner and founder) wanted to share with the community the beauty of thousands of poinsettias. Since then, the show has grown as family and staff create Christmas themes with detailed displays.

Glick’s Greenhouse is at 57 Fisher Mill Road, Oley. For more information, call 610-689-9856 or email glicksgreenhouse@gmail.com or visit www.glicksgreenhouse.com.
