John Paul II Center for Special Learning (JPII) will hold its 15th annual Legacy Gala on Saturday, April 26, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Reading. Throughout the evening, we will celebrate our students, adults, and staff while sharing our gratitude for those who made it possible for us to do so. The event’s Presenting Sponsor is Customers Bank, and Signature Sponsor is Metropolitan Companies.
During the event, JPII will present its Halo Award to Alvernia University for the partnership the two schools have formed. Alvernia University President Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D., will accept the award on behalf of the university.
Dr. Fitzgerald shared, “We are deeply honored to receive the Halo Award from the John Paul II Center for Special Learning at this year’s Annual Legacy Gala. This recognition celebrates the enduring partnership between Alvernia University and the JPII Center, a collaboration rooted in our shared mission of service and community impact.”
“Through initiatives such as student-led service projects, internships, and events at the JPII Center, the John R. Post Center at Reading CollegeTowne, and soon at the American House, our partnership embodies the transformative power of unity and shared purpose. These efforts have enriched the lives of Alvernia and JPII students, clients, and alums while strengthening the fabric of the greater Berks County community. Alvernia students begin their journey as student teachers, remain as faculty, or continue to serve as dedicated volunteers. Everyone who has the privilege of working with the students at JPII walks away, enriched by the experience.”
“Looking to the future, we are inspired by the immense potential for continued growth and collaboration. Together, we are committed to creating new opportunities for those we serve and fostering a more inclusive, supportive community. This award honors the milestones we have achieved together and energizes us to envision and build an even brighter, more connected future.”
In addition, the center will recognize Kathy Moffitt of Wyomissing with its Peggy’s Legacy of Faith Award for her volunteerism on JPII’s Gala Committee.

The support received during last year’s virtual event benefited JPII students and adults in many ways. The center was able to increase scholarships to our families.
