by Junior League of Reading

The Junior League of Reading, in partnership with the Reading Fightin’ Phils at FirstEnergy Stadium, will host its 17th annual Touch-a-Truck event on Sunday, April 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Touch-a-Truck will allow kids of all ages the opportunity to see, climb in, and explore their favorite trucks and automobiles during this fun, interactive event. The event provides the opportunity to learn about over 30 vehicles related to public works, construction, landscaping, health services, and more. The event will also highlight various vendors in the community selling jewelry and goods, education on various community resources and services, and entertainment on the Fightin’s stage. This family-friendly event also offers games, music, a bounce house, face painting, and food and beverages for purchase at the Fightin’s concessions stands. A sensory-friendly hour will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for those who prefer a quieter environment. Tickets are $10 for those 13 years and older, kids 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.jlreading.org/touch-a-truck/, or you can find our event page by visiting the Junior League of Reading on Facebook.

The support of the Junior League of Reading goes towards many efforts throughout the year. However, our signature project is the Young Women’s Summit. We are immensely proud of this annual two-weekend program for middle school girls, curated and facilitated by our volunteers. During the Young Women’s Summit, participants learn about connecting with themselves, each other, and their community. Attendees provide service learning projects to several local nonprofits, including Safe Berks, Animal Rescue League, Mary’s Shelter, Veterans Making a Difference, Opportunity House, and many others. Your support of the Junior League of Reading will help us to continue these efforts and to do even more.

Founded in 1923, the Junior League of Reading is celebrating 100 years as an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our mission is to advance women’s leadership through meaningful community impact. The trained volunteers of the Junior League of Reading are focused on empowering youth and raising self-esteem by creating, improving, and expanding the resources and opportunities available for their growth, development, and overall welfare of the young people in Berks County. We believe that through empowering youth, we can act as catalysts for lasting community change.

The Junior League of Reading reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.
