Mackenzie Kile scored on a penalty stroke with 2:09 left to lift Kutztown University to a 2-1 win over Shippensburg in the NCAA Division II field hockey semifinals Friday at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H.

The third-seeded Golden Bears (18-3) will face top-seeded and defending champion East Stroudsburg (18-2), which beat fifth-seeded Assumption 3-0 in the other semifinal, in the final Sunday at Manchester at 1 p.m.

The second-seeded Red Raiders (15-5) took a 1-0 lead 8:37 into the first quarter on a goal by Tess Jedeloo. Kutztown tied it on a goal by Jessica Traynor with 1:31 left in the first quarter.

Mia Kepler made seven saves for KU, which scored on two of its four shots on goal.

Sarah Gatehouse, a senior back and Wilson grad, played all 60 minutes for the Golden Bears.

Oley Valley grad Karlee Howard, a freshman midfielder, also is on the Kutztown roster.

The Golden Bears are in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. This will be their first appearance in the final.

Friday’s win avenged two previous losses this season to the Red Raiders (1-0 in overtime in the PSAC semifinals, 3-2 in the regular season).

Two Berks high school grads played for Shippensburg Friday.

Paige Graber, a senior defender from Oley Valley, played 43 minutes. Brea Borrell, a junior midfielder/defender from Conrad Weiser, played 11 minutes.

Alexandra Lopez, a freshman midfielder from Oley Valley, also is on the Red Raiders roster.

Four Berks high school grads are on the East Stroudsburg roster: Oley Valley grad Madison Kline, a senior forward; Gov. Mifflin grad Madyson Baessler, a freshman back; Wilson grad Caitlyn Moseman, a freshman back; and Twin Valley grad Hannah Schmittinger, a freshman back.

Kline, who is the Warriors’ leading scorer with 19 goals and 11 assists, played 40 minutes in the victory over Assumption.
