I would like to commend Berks County athletic teams and coaching staffs for another outstanding season. Kutztown University set the tone with its excellence in football and field hockey, with field hockey taking home a national title.
Oley Valley notched a state title in field hockey while Wyomissing had another deep run in the state football playoffs.
Twin Valley and Schuylkill Valley made it to the district semifinals in football, with the Panthers setting a school record for wins in a season. Wilson reached the district quarterfinals. Overall, the old Berks League can be very proud of how its teams are competing in the merged Lancaster-Lebanon League.
In boys soccer, Kutztown won a district title. Kutztown, Conrad Weiser, Fleetwood and Tulpehocken reached the state playoffs. In girls soccer, Wyomissing and Schuylkill Valley reached the state playoffs after sensational regular seasons.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the contributions of retiring football coaches Jeff Lang of Gov. Mifflin and Rick Keeley of Berks Catholic. Lang’s Mustang teams won 66% of their games, while Keeley tallied 280 wins during his long and illustrious career.
We are very fortunate to live in a sports paradise in Berks.
