I’m writing in response to “Writer gets it wrong on Biden, other Democrats” (Reading Eagle, Aug. 19).
Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates who served in the Bush and Obama administrations, recently said that President Joe Biden was wrong on every foreign policy in the last 40 years as senator, vice president and president.
The debacle in Afghanistan is Biden’s second catastrophic mistake in the last 10 years. His first was in Iraq when he was vice president and the Obama administration withdrew troops prematurely. This created the Islamic State caliphate and killed thousands of Iraqis.
When Biden was vice president, Russia invaded Crimea in eastern Ukraine and would have advanced farther if Trump had not supplied Ukraine with anti-tank missiles.
The Taliban now has control of most of Afghanistan and appears to be holding Americans hostage in Kabul. The billions of dollars worth of American weapons, planes and vehicles left behind by Biden now make Afghanistan the largest and best equipped terrorist country in the world.
The secretary of defense, secretary of state and national security adviser should all resign. Gen. Mark Milley should be removed as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and our commander-in-chief should be court-martialed.
