In the last Republican presidential debate, Vivek Ramaswamy likened Nikki Haley to “Dick Cheney in 3-inch heels.” The silence from the other men on stage was deafening.
Chivalry is perhaps dead, but is common decency dead as well? In a better world, this obvious sexist comment would have been met by scorn and reproach by the other candidates. In fact, not only would it have been the right thing to do, it would have been a smart political move.
A candidate coming to the defense of a bullied Haley would have seemed refreshingly bold and courageous to most voters, especially those who have become weary of the attacks and drudgery of the debates. What a missed opportunity.
