Letter: Career politicians are much like monarchs

It’s said that after George Washington led American forces to victory in the Revolutionary War, he was asked if he wanted to be king. He replied that Americans had just spent a lot of time overthrowing one king, so surely they wouldn’t want another one. He agreed to serve as president for a limited period of time before he returned to private life. As time went by, others came up with the closest thing to being a king serving for life in America. That idea was career politicians.
