Letter: Commentary on energy demands a rebuttal

Editor

Once again I have to respond to a Republican making inaccurate statements about energy (“U.S. energy crisis must be solved now,” Reading Eagle, Dec. 1). Due to his position, I believe people look up to Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach or believe he knows what he is talking about. He blames current fuel prices squarely on the Biden administration when in reality as a good Republican he should know and support the supply and demand issue.

For years oil and gas prices were very low due to overdrilling. World energy suppliers have pulled back the money they spend on drilling new wells, and some refineries were closed due to costs.

America is exporting a large amount of oil and gas. Does the commissioner wish to put export bans in place? What is his answer to current prices? Does he want the government to force the oil companies to produce more?

Well, I believe I read the answer to my above questions in the same edition of the paper. Is it a coincidence that he put out this hyperbole around the same time he announced his decision to run for commissioner again?
