Letter: Meuser spreads untruths to district constituents

Editor:

I have been receiving U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser’s electronic newsletter for years. Recently, his skewing of the truth has become more blatant and is serving to mislead his constituents.
He claimed that “in June inflation had nearly increased 550% under the current administration.” In fact, it increased 9.1% year over year. Inflation is not only a U.S. problem but a worldwide one.
Meuser implied America once was the largest oil producer but is no more because of administration policies. In fact, America is still the largest oil producer by about 8 million barrels per day.

He stated that the administration has done nothing to wean the U.S. away from reliance on China for computer chips and other items. In fact, the bipartisan CHIPS Act Biden recently signed is designed to wean the U.S. away from China.

Meuser fails to acknowledge the benefits of the recently passed infrastructure bill that again received bipartisan support, and he repeatedly misrepresents the new law that will control drug prices and prevent gouging by drug companies. It will ensure U.S. companies will pay a 15% minimum tax for the privilege of being able to operate in one of the greatest countries in the world.

The measure also includes additional benefits for seniors and others in our nation who need a helping hand.

Shame on Meuser. He should stop misleading his constituents. They deserve better. Perhaps it is time for a change?
